Abstract
1412579 Cable joint INDUSTRIE PIRELLI SpA 18 June 1973 [24 June 1972] 9661/75 Divided out of 1411322 Heading H2E To insulate the conductor joints in a 3 core cable joint without severe deformation of the cores, the cables 10, 10<SP>1</SP> with outer metal sheath 11, 11<SP>1</SP> and overall impregnated insulation 12, 12<SP>1</SP> cut back, and stress cones 13, 13<SP>1</SP> fitted, are joined by metal clamping members 27 &c. coupling the bared ends of each conductor pair. Conically ended casings 37, 38 are previously stepped over the cable ends, and heat shrinkable plastics sleeves 47, 48 and 50, 51 &c. are slipped over their, respective impregnated core insulation; three legged spacers 55, 55<SP>1</SP> fitting the casings are inserted between the cores. After jointing the sleeves 47, 48 are overlapped at 49, and similarly for the other cores, with the ends of their interiors packed with polyisobutylene to fill any cavities. The casing halves are overlapped 39 and welded together 40 and to the sheaths at 41, 41<SP>1</SP>. Exothermically polymerizing cold-pouring insulating compound is poured through ports 43, 43<SP>1</SP>, its heat causing sleeves 47, 48 &e. to shrink. Finally outer split casing 60 is fitted and filled with compound.
