Abstract

1412338 Driver valves BERG MFG CO 26 Feb 1973 9416/73 Heading F2F A fluid pressure braking system application valve assembly has an inlet chamber 2, an outlet chamber 3, a valve member 7 biased to close a communicating passage 4 between the chambers, a piston 20, when not actuated, spaced from, but movable into contact with, the valve member to open it, an actuating plate 32 mounted in one end of the piston and which operates on the piston initially through a first yielding means, and after a predetermined travel it operates additionally through a second yielding means, originally spaced from the plate. The first yielding means is a coil spring 34 which gives a low valve travel to plate travel ratio, whereas the second yielding means is a Belleville washer spring 35 providing a higher such ratio. For emergency braking, the plate 32 directly contacts a projection 31 of the piston. Defining walls 4a, 12, 12a of the passage 4 are streamlined for ease of fluid flow. When the valve is not actuated, fluid is exhautsed to atmosphere through a flapper valve 11.
