Abstract

1411745 Treating drosses on molten metals or alloys; fluxes FOSECO INTERNATIONAL Ltd 29 Sept 1972 [29 Sept 1971] 45422/71 Headings C7D and C7M Dross on the surface of molten Zn, Cd, Pb or Sn or their alloys is treated by the addition of a flux containing a caustic alkali or a precursor thereof. The flux may be a mixture of solid NaOH or KuH with quicklime, slaked lime, lamp black or colloidal SiO 2 gel on a mixture of slaked lime and at least one of the silicates, borates and carbonates of Na or K. Alternatively solid graphite, charcoal, lamp black, quicklime, slaked lime, asbestos, colloidal SiO 2 gel, coke, asbestine talc, silicates, aluminosilicates or felspar may be impregnated with aqueous NaOH or KoH. The flux may also include alkali metal nitrates, chlorates, perchlorates, permanganates, persulphates, alkali or alkaline earth metal peroxides, H 2 O 2 or lead oxide.
