1411403 Pipe couplings COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd 11 May 1973 [9 June 1972] 27100/72 Heading F2G In a bayonet-action quick-release pipe coupling between identical connectors, each having an axially movable locking sleeve 3 with a castellated end 10, pins 20 have recesses 22, which engage the edges of holes (23) in the opposed connector. In use, the pins 20 are inserted in the holes (23) and the connectors pressed together, thus moving their sleeves 3 against the action of compression coil sprins 4. On turning one connector relatively to the other, the castellations 10 on the sleeves interpenetrate one another (under the return action of the springs) and pins 20 look in the holes 23. To effect release, the sleeves 3 must first be drawn back, to allow the connectors to be rotated relatively to one another.
