Abstract

1411096 Linkwork DRESSER INDUSTRIES Inc 26 Sept 1972 [4 Dot 1971] 44456/72 Heading F2K [Also in Division G1] In a condition responsive gauge instrument such as a Bourdon gauge 11, movement of the condition sensing element 18 is transmitted by a motion amplifier 10 which includes two coupled members 41, 46 each pivotally mounted between limbs of a frame 33 attached for translational movement with the element 18, the member 41 being also pivotable about a fixed axis defined by an actuator 50 such that on motion of the frame 33 the member 41, e.g. a sector arm, pivots about the fixed axis and rotates the member 46, e.g. a pinion meshing with the arm 41, to drive a pointer 19 over a scale 20. In modifications (Figs. 6-18, not shown) the span of the instrument can be adjusted by altering the position of the actuator 50 and thus the pivot axis of the member 41; and the instrument can be zeroed either by providing member 41 with a portion (in which actuator 50 engages) which is manually adjustable relative to the main body of the member 41 or by varying the length of actuator 50. By making the actuator 50 of a bimetallic element thermally coupled to the instrument stem 12 the instrument can be temperature compensated. As in Fig. 19, two Bourdon tubes 98, 99 can be arranged to operate from a common or from different pressure sources, the amplifier 10 being connected to one tube 98 and the actuator 50 to the other tube 99.
