Wire &c. strainers.-Straining-screws and tension-regulating attachments for wire ropes &c. comprise sliding frames, between which compression springs may be situated, and tensioning screws together with devices for indicating the load applied. In the device shown in Fig. 1, two frames A are provided with cross-members D, D<1> and screwed ends B, the cross-members being slotted to engage the corresponding side members and adapted to form a seating for the compression spring F. An index H on the member D' co-operates with a scale I on the frame A to indicate the load. In the form shown in Fig. 2, only one straining screw is provided and a sleeve G prevents undue compression of the spring. As shown in Fig. 3, the second frame takes the form of a tubular member A<1> formed at the end with a hexagonal head B and flanged at A<2> to retain a plate D, between which and the end plate P of the frame A the spring is housed'. Ribs E are formed on the exterior of the tube to act as guides and on one of them the indicating scale may be mounted.
