Abstract

1409904 Elliptical reflector OPTICAL RADIATION CORP 4 Sept 1972 40903/72 Heading F4R [Also in Division G2] A film projector light has a pair of spaced electrodes producing an annulus of light 13 between them, a reflector 12 whose surface of revolution comprises a segment S of an ellipse with its major axes rotated from the axis through the electrodes about the first focus f 1 of the ellipse and an apertured screen 14 at the ring of the second focus f 2N of the ellipse. The ends of the segment subtend angles at the electrodes 10 degrees greater than the edge angles of the annulus and the light image is ¥ of the greatest dimension of the aperture. Preferably a xenon arc lamp is used with its region of greatest radiance set at the first focus. The segment S may be rotated clockwise or anti-clockwise about the first focus. In use the apertured screen forms the gate of a projector (Fig. 3, not shown) and if a small gate is used a concave refractor (60, Fig. 4, not shown) is used to reduce the area of the second focus. The shape of the reflector is said to give even illumination in the aperture.
