Abstract

1409683 Varying denier fibres KANEGAFUCHI KAGAKU KOGYO KK 11 Oct 1973 [16 Oct 1972] 47620/73 Heading B5B [Also in Division D1] A fibre has one or more thinner parts separated by thicker parts in the middle and thinner parts at each end. The following relationships are obeyed where D is the diameter of the thickest part of the fibre, d the average diameter of the middle thinner part or parts, d 1 is the average diameter of the thinner end parts, L is the length of the thinner part in the middle or the average of each such part and L 1 the length of the thinner parts at the ends or the average of each such part. These fibres may be produced by stretching fibres under conditions of localized heating, such as a hot air jet playing on only a short length of the fibre. The ends may be produced by stretching like this until the fibres snap. The exemplified material is a copolymer of acrylonitrile and vinyl chloride (40 : 60 by weight).
