Abstract

1409528 Bowden mechanisms BOWDEN CONTROLS Ltd 6 Sept 1972 [23 Sept 1971] 41344/72 Divided out of 1409524 Heading F2 A Bowden mechanism capable of being operated in compression ("push") as well as tension comprises a flexible conduit 1 fixed at points A and B and enclosing a wire 2 to the ends (or to one end only) of which are fixed rods 6, 7 these rods at their ends within the conduit remaining within the conduit 1 (in a portion having a plastics liner 24) in the operative limits of the mechanism. The ends of the conduit 3, and 4 protrude beyond fixing points A and B to allow for movement of the rods with the operated (or operating) mechanisms, these comprising a pedal 9 operated lever 8 and a member 11 operated by a lever 10, the rods having pivotal connections with the levers. Fig. 2 shows one form of mounting of the conduit, with a member 14 screwed on the outside of it and held by flared portions 15 to a fixed panel. The cable. 2 may have a strip 22 wound round it, and a coating 23 of plastics material, and a liner 21, also of plastics material may be provided, the outer conduit being formed from interwound wires 19, 20 shaped as shown and defining the screwthread of the conduit. The liner 24 retains the liner 21 in the conduit and a rubber boot 25 is provided around the rod 6a.
