Abstract

1409105 Dental drill attachments I JELICIC and D JELICIC 13 Nov 1972 [12 Nov 1971] 52395/72 Heading A5R A dental drill is provided with a guard 8 partially shielding a dental tool 5 so that an operative part 14 of the tool is left unshielded, the guard being movable about the axis of the tool and serving to prevent contact between the gum and the tool. The guard 8 comprises two parts 15a, 15b connected to a ring 9 supported by ball-bearing units 11 on the casing 3 of a dental handpiece and an internal flange 12 of a screw cap 10 connecting the guard to the casing. The parts 15a, 15b define a slot 17 at the side of the drill opposite the operative part 14 of the tool and extending along the length of the tool whereby the work being done by the tool can be observed. Rounded pads 16 on the parts 15a, 15b limit entry of the tool into the gum pocket. In modifications, the guard is mounted on the shaft of the tool, means being provided whereby the guard is either prevented from rotating under bearing friction or permitted to turn a limited distance.
