Abstract

1408518 Wells &c CAMCO INC 21 Sept 1973 [24 Oct 1972] 44431/73 Heading E1F A device 29 for removing or inserting a flow valve 20 from or into a seat 18 in well tubing 10 comprises a support body 30, a shifting tool 32 pivoted to the support body and arranged to support the valve, releasable means 60, 62 initially holding the body and tool in alignment, a spring 64 urging the tool towards the seat when the releasable means is released, and releasable holding means 104 for releasing the force of the spring from the tool so that the tool after use may be pivotally aligned with the body for withdrawal through the tubing. The device is lowered into the tubing on a wireline 40 and when adjacent the seat is pulled upwards to engage a latch 46 on the device with a stop 28 on a guide tube 22 fixed in the tubing. The pull raises the part 62 above the part 60, the spring then pivoting the tool to the position shown in Fig. 2. One end of the spring is fixed to a member 100 pivoted to the tool at 102, and the other end of the member is fixed by a shear pin 104 to a valve handling support 34 which is pivoted to the tool and carries the valve by means of an adapter 74. When a downward jar is applied to the device the valve enters the seat and the support pivots on the tool shearing the pin 104 to permit the member to pivot and release the force of the spring. To increase rotation of the tool about the body the part 62 is mounted on a rotatable joint 110 fixed to the tool by a pin 112 which shears prior to shearing of the pin 106. A hydraulic pump may replace the wireline.
