Abstract

1408464 Polymeric defoaming agents KONISHIROKU PHOTO INDUSTRY CO Ltd 7 Dec 1972 [7 Dec 1971] 56569/72 Heading C3P [Also in Divisions C2 and G2] Polymers useful as defoaming agents in the processing of exposed photographic elements contain units of the formula wherein R represents H or methyl, X(-) represents an anion, and Q(+) represents R 1 representing C 1 -C 3 alkyl, phenyl or benzyl, R 2 and R 3 independently representing C 1 -C 3 alkyl or, if R 1 is alkyl, R 2 and R 3 together with the N atom may form a heterocyclic group having 5 or 6 ring atoms, and A representing a group of non-metal atoms which together with the -N<SP>(+)</SP>=C- group forms a heterocyclic group having 5 or 6 ring atoms. The polymers may also include units of comonomers, e.g. acrylamide or N-vinyl-pyrrolidone. In illustrated examples polymers are obtained by polymerizing: (1) 2-hydroxy-3-methacryoylpropyl trimethyl ammonium chloride to form a homopolymer and (2) N-(2-hydroxy-3-methacryoyloxypropyl)-pyridinium chloride with N- vinyl-2-pyrrolidone to form a copolymer.
