Abstract

1408134 Steam-cracking catalyst BRITISH GAS CORP 4 Aug 1972 [6 Aug 1971 9 Sept 1971] 37133/71 and 42180/71 Heading B1E [Also in Division C5] A ruthenium supported on alumina catalyst is prepared from an aqueous solution of ruthenium trichloride and aluminium nitrate by addition of aqueous ammonium bicarbonate to a pH of about 8, washing and drying the precipitate and then pelletting with 2% graphite. The resulting catalyst may then be reduced with H 2 under elevated pressure prior to use in the steam reforming of light hydrocarbons or methanol to CH 4 and CO 2 (see Division C5).
