Abstract

1408112 Fuel-injection I C engines MOTORENWERK CUNEWALDE VEB 20 June 1973 [28 June 1972] 29301/73 Heading FIB The centre of curvature of the 3 spherical portion of the combustion chamber 2 in the piston is offset in one direction from the piston axis 6 and the centre of curvature of the circular portion of the aperture 3 in the piston top surface 1 is offset in the opposite direction from the axis towards a bulge 31 forming a discontinuity in the spherical shape of the chamber and the circular shape of the aperture. A fuel injector 4 disposed eccentrically of the piston axis 6 provides a jet 41 directed in the direction # of air swirling in the chamber 2. At least one of the bulge walls extends as a tangent 32 to the aperture at the point where the mouth of the bulge merges with the circular aperture and the tangents may subtend an angle α between 90 and 120 degrees. The jet 41 forms an acute angle # with the tangents 32. The offsets a and b of the centres of curvature of the sphere and circle may be between 3 and 7% and 1 and 3% respectively of the maximum combustion chamber diameter, this maximum diameter being between 1.1 and 1.2 times the aperture diameter.
