Abstract

1408023 Parachutes BEKLEIDUNGSWERKE SEIFHENNERSDORF VEB 24 Oct 1972 48962/72 Heading B7G A parachute for emergency use comprises a canopy 14 formed from gores 15 forming an apex opening 16 and having an annular panel 17 secured at its inner periphery to the edge of opening 16 and at peripherally spaced points at its outer periphery to every third gore seam whereby on release of the canopy the panel is inflated in scollops 20 to facilitate deployment of the canopy 14. To facilitate ready release of the canopy from its pack, the skirt portion only of the canopy is stored within the pack which comprises a base 1 and an arrangement of flaps. In Figs. 1 and 2 (wherein the flaps of Figs. 1 are omitted from Fig. 2 and vice versa, for clarity) the base 1 carries loops 6 for securing the rigging lines upon which the canopy is laid so that the skirt lies adjacent seam 25 of flap 9, which is then folded over the canopy without fastenings. Thereafter flaps 7 and 8 are folded over and fastened to one another by fastenings 11 and 21. The first fold of the canopy is then laid over the fastened flaps 7 and 8 and covered by folding over flap 10, which is secured by fastenings 22 and 23. The whole is enclosed in an outer pack, having base 1 common with the inner pack by folding over outer flaps 2, 3, 4, 5.
