Abstract
1408018 Divider-multiplier computers MONSANTO CO 28 Dec 1972 [29 Dec 1971] 59751-/72 Heading G4G A divider/multiplier circuit includes a loop in which an error signal is represented as the duty cycle of a pulse train subsequently modulated in accordance with a divisor signal (b), the modulated error signal being compared with an input dividend signal (a), whereby the error signal is representative of the quotient (a/b). As shown, input signal a and feedback signal V f are compared in op. amp. 12 to produce error signal e which, after integration in circuit 14, is compared with a triangular wave 21 to produce a pulse train 22 having a duty cycle d proportional to the error signal. Pulse train 22 is modulated in FET 96 by a second input signal b and the modulated signal converted in low-pass integrating circuit 26 to an analogue signal V f = k 1 db. Thus, by the operation of comparator 12, The signal 22 which represents a/b may be modulated in FET 30 in accordance with a further input variable c. The resultant signal is demodulated in circuit 32 to produce an analogue signal proportional to c.a/b. The scale factor may be varied by means of potentiometer 124 and the signal amplified in circuit 34 to produce optional current or voltage outputs.
