Abstract

1407949 Securing bicycles against theft L D PERRET 7 March 1974 10257/74 Headings B7E and B7J A tubular handlebar 12 for a bicycle incorporates a device for securing the bicycle against theft comprising an elongate cable 22 freely supported within the handlebar, an enlarged tip 26 at one end of the cable located inside the handlebar, and a stop 18 at the other end of the cable which bears against an end of the handlebar when the device is not in use, securement of the bicycle in use being effected by withdrawing a portion of the cable 22 by pulling on the stop 18 and looping it round the frame of the bicycle, e.g. as shown in Fig. 1, or round an immovable object, and then securing the loop with a locking device, e.g. a padlock 28, an abutment 24 in the handlebar engageable with the tip 26 preventing total withdrawal of the cable 22 from the handlebar. The abutment 24 may be a ring of expansible material frictionally engaged in the handlebar. The stop 18 may have a member 20 attached to it and received in the handlebar and may be made of decorative or reflective material. A similar stop 30 may be provided for the other end of the handlebar 12.
