Abstract

1407588 Crop spraying FISONS Ltd 1 Nov 1972 [17 Aug 1971] 38501/71 Heading AID [Also in Division B1] A device for spraying chemicals from a vehicle e.g. an agricultural crop spraying machine, comprises means for supplying a stream of water through a water supply line to at least one spray nozzle, a container for a chemical in liquid form, a chemical supply line from the container to the water supply line or nozzle, pressure-equalising means adapted to produce a pressure in the chemical supply line substantially equal to that in the water supply line, and a liquid displacement and measuring means in the chemical supply line between the pressure equalising means and the nozzle which is adapted to displace the chemical through the supply line at a rate substantially proportional to the vehicle speed. The water supply means may comprise a tank 20, pump 21, adjustable pressure relief valve 23 and supply line 22. A pressure equalising valve 1 disposed in the chemical supply line 27 comprises a valve element (8, Fig. 1 not shown) controlled by a diaphragm (4) which is exposed to the water supply pressure. The displacement and metering means 11 comprises a sliding vane type rotary valve (Fig. 2 not shown) adapted to be driven from the wheels 28 of the vehicle. The valve 11 preferably includes a rotor of adjustable eccentricity relative to the housing so that for any given vehicle speed adjustment can be made to the rate of supply of chemical. In an alternative apparatus (Fig. 4, not shown) the water and chemical tanks are pressurised by a common compressed air cylinder or pump, which replaces the pumps 21, 26 and the pressure equalising valve 1 of the apparatus of Fig. 3.
