Abstract

1407535 Staircases KENNGOTT KG 15 Oct 1973 [17 Oct 1972] 48518/73 Heading E1G In a staircase built without stringers, wherein flat overlapping treads 10 are interconnected by pairs of vertical rods 11, 12, the nearside tread ends are closely spaced from a staircase wall 22 and at least every other tread is anchored in spaced relation to the wall by a rectangular bar 23 which is secured rigidly or resiliently to the underside of the tread and is mortared into a cylindrical bore 26 in the wall, additional support for the staircase being provided (a) by securing the nearside vertical rod 120 of the lowermost tread 10 to the floor 32 to resist tensile forces, and (b) by securing the uppermost tread to the upper floor (as at 36, Fig 1) and/or to the staircase wall (as by letting-in, as at 35, Fig 2, not shown). As shown, each rod 11, 12 is threaded in a sleeve 13 in an upper tread and clamped by a threaded rod 14 to the subjacent tread, the inner rod 14 also securing the anchor bar 23. The bore 26 is sized according to the strength of the wall material and is filled with high strength mortar 28. A cover disc 30 is provided. In a modification a rubber or plastics pad is inserted between each anchor bar and its tread to reduce noise.
