Abstract

1407495 Water-insoluble mono-azo dyestuffs GAF CORP 13 Sept 1972 [30 Sept 1971] 42512/72 Heading C4P Dyestuffs of the formula wherein R<SP>11</SP> is H, Cl or Br; R<SP>111</SP> is H, Cl or CH 3 ; and R<SP>1</SP> is phenyl, chlorophenyl, bromophenyl (C 1-6 alkyl)-phenyl or (C 1-6 alkoxy)- phenyl, which are novel when both R<SP>11</SP> and R<SP>111</SP> are H, are prepared by acylating an appropriate N-(cyanoethyl)-N-(hydroxyethyl)-aniline in a water-soluble aprotic solvent and then reacting the acylation product without isolation with an appropriate diazotized p-nitro-aniline. Preferably the coupler is run into the highly acidic diazo solution (which may contain a polyoxyethylated fatty alcohol) to which is then added ice and water. The dyestuffs are used to dye fabrics made of polyester, polyestercotton mixtures or cellulose acetate. British Specifications 1,058,378 and 1,055,399 are referred to.
