Abstract
1407423 Monitoring fluid-flow photoelectrically SOC GRENOBLOISE D ETUDES ET D APPLICATIONS HYDRAULIQUES 3 Oct 1972 [5 Oct 1971] 45632/72 Heading G1A [Also in Division H4] To measure the velocity of a flowing medium a monochromatic light beam is projected along a probe 1, focused at a point 3 in the liquid and backscattered light 4c is combined at a photo-cell 5 with reference beam 4a to provide an output whose Doppler frequency shift is indicative of the flow velocity. The mirror arrangement may be replaced by optical fibre(s). A further embodiment Figs. 2, 3 (not shown) directs light scattered in three directions on to three photo-cells so as to determine three velocity components and/or turbulence conditions.
