1407003 Coated products HOECHST AG 30 July 1972 [30 July 1971 24 Dec 1971 31 Jan 1972] 42801/74 Divided out of 1407001 Addition to 1407001 Heading B2E [Also in Division C3] A substrate is coated with a composition which is (a) a powder or (b) a solution or 'dispersion in a solvent, and comprises (1) a resin component consisting entirely or mainly of an epoxy resin (E) containing acetoacetic ester groups, and (2) at least one further component being a curing agent, pigment, or filler. (1) may also comprise e.g. a conventional epoxy resin, an alkyd, polyester, phenolic, amino, or polyurethane resin, or an addition polymer. Resin (E) may also contain further ester groups, e.g. RCOO-, where RCO- is the acyl residue of a saturated or unsaturated C 2-22 fatty acid or an aromatic carboxylic acid. (E) may also contain chelated atoms of a metal. Further details of (E), including its preparation and suitable curing agents, are as in Application Nos. 15157/72 and 36422/74. Long lists of other components (2) are given in the present specification. Substrates include Fe, Zn, Cu, Al, steel, brass bronze, wood, ceramic, glass, cement, concrete, epoxy, phenolic, polyester, polyamide, polyimide, aminoplast, alkyd, or polyurethane resins; PVC, vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate copolymers, or acrylic polymers. The substrate may have been pretreated with emery paper, sand-blasting, oxidizing agents, or phosphating. The coaled substrate may then be overcoated with e.g. F-containing vinyl polymers, acrylic ester/ acrylic acid/styrene copolymer, chloropolypropylene, cyclorubber, chlorinated rubber, nitrocellulose, alkyd-resins- or drying-oil-based lacquer, curable or stoving lacquer based on alkyd/amino, alkyd/isocyanate, phenolic-amino, acrylic, acrylic/amino, epoxy/phenolic, or epoxy/amino resin.
