Abstract

1406677 Sprinkler head actuator S R PRODUCTS INC 10 Aug 1972 37454/72 Heading A5A An actuator for use with a sprinkler head leaving a fusible element 76 comprises a pyrotechnic heat generator 14 rigidly secured via a bracket 16 to a pant of the head and orientated so that heat generated in the generator 14 in response to electrical stimuli is directed towards the fusible element and thus cause melting thereof and means for detecting the presence of a fire by smoke level, temperature, rate of rise of temperature or ionisation level connected to the generator and arranged to provide the electrical stimuli in event of fire. The heat generator 14 comprises a cylindrical jacket 52 whose inner surface is lined with a heat generating composition 66, an ignition capsule 70 for igniting the composition 66, and terminals 98, 100 for electrically actuating the capsule 70. The generator 14 may be attached to the sprinkler at various alternative points.
