Abstract

1406478 Stud fastening ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS Inc 10 Nov 1972 [11 Nov 1971] 52073/72 Heading E2B [Also in Division F2] A one-piece plastics securing device for receiving a screw comprises a head section 1 and a shank section 2 provided with an axial bore 3 and at least two external longitudinal channels 4 extending the entire length of the device, and a resilient cantilever projection 5 formed integrally with the base of each channel and extending along and out of the channel towards the head section, the projections being forced within the channels when the device is pushed into an aperture a in a panel A, 'but springing from the channels so that shoulders 5' engage behind the panel when the device is pushed fully home. The shank section 2 is preferably formed of a polygonal e.g. rectangular cross-section matched to the shape of the aperture a to prevent rotation of the device. More than two, or even all, of the sides of the head and shank sections 1, 2 may have a channel 4 and associated projection 5.
