Abstract

1405734 Oxygen generator LIFE SUPPORT Inc 27 Feb 1974 [6 March 1973] 8955/74 Heading C1A A chemical oxygen generator comprises a canister containing a chlorate candle 30, a sealed orifice 15 for releasing oxygen, means in the canister for activating the chlorate candle and a baffle 22 having side legs 24 embracing opposite sides of the chlorate candle and spaced in from the canister wall to provide oxygen flow paths 25 from the candle to the orifice. Activation is achieved by breaking the seal 16 with a pin and depressing a plunger in actuator cup 17 releasing water into the ignition material 42 in the recess 34 in the chlorate candle. The shape of the candle allows free oxygen flow paths, prevents overheating of the generator and provides a consistent flow rate of oxygen.
