Abstract

1405691 Chucks HOUDAILLE INDUSTRIES Inc 25 April 1973 [2 May 1972] 19610/73 Addition to 1,351,349 Heading B3B In a tool holder assembly according to claims 1, 2 or 5 of the main patent in which a recess 12 of a spindle 11 receives a tool, the driving keys of which pass through slots 25 in a locking ring 19 and enter slots 14 in the spindle when the locking ring is in a latched position, and in which the latch comprises a release pin 40 that carries a latch pin 42 that engages the locking ring to hold it in the latched position against springs 36 which act to automatically rotate the locking ring and clamp a tool in the recess, an improvement is constituted in that the release pin 40 is directly slidably carried by the spindle 11 for movement along its length and retractably projects from the bottom end of the spindle for engagement by the tool when it is inserted and the latch pin 42 projects through a slot 43 in the spindle for movement in a direction perpendicular to its length into an axially opening notch 26 in the locking ring 19. The springs 36 lie in parallel in a groove around the locking ring 19 and one of their ends act against a stop 17 on the spindle and their other ends act on the locking ring 19. A cylindrical flange 26 is cut away over an arcuate portion to produce abutments that engage the stop 17 to limit rotation of the locking ring.
