Abstract

140,526. Sandels, A. L. Jan. 2, 1919. Reciprocating or oscillating sieves.-Apparatus for vibrating screens, particularly for screening coal and the like, comprises a drive-shaft 1, Fig. 4, and two countershafts 4, 5 disposed one within the other and axially parallel to, but offset from, the drive-shaft, the drive-shaft being provided with two, preferably diametrically-opposed, crankpins 3 which are respectively connected with crank-pins 6, 7 on the countershafts by links 8, 9, Figs. 4 and 5, which are of greater length than the distance separating the axes of the drive and countershafts. On the countershafts are mounted eccentrics 10, 11 which are connected by straps and rods to a screen 14, Figs. 1 and 2, and a conveyer 17 in such a manner that the screen and conveyer move simultaneously in opposite directions at relatively different speeds. The point of the stroke at which maximum speed is reached can be varied by adjusting the eccentrics. A third eccentric 18, Fig. 4, on one of the countershafts is connected by a rod 19, Fig. 1, to a feedplate at the bottom of the hopper 22. The screen is preferably provided with portions 24, 25, Fig. 2, of different mesh, and the conveyer member 17, Fig. 1, is provided with gates or openings 26. 27 through which the graded material is delivered to trucks 23.
