Abstract

1405032 Colostomy appliances HOLLISTER Inc 26 June 1973 [18 Sept 1972] 3034073 Heading A5R A post-operative discharge collecting appliance comprises a fluid-tight pouch having an opening 18 adapted to register with a stoma and provided with an adhesive coating around the opening to seal the pouch to the user's abdomen, there being a vent aperture covered by a deodorizing filter 22 in the pouch for exhausting gases, and an absorbent pad 26 for absorbing discharge from the stoma. The pouch may be formed by heat sealing together panels 13, 14 of plastics material the panel 13 having the opening 18 and the panel 14 being dished and formed with a plurality of vent apertures (21). The filter 22 comprises a disc of matted fibres and granular activated carbon and is positioned over the vents (21) and secured to the either surface of panel 14 by a cover 23 having a central vent 24. The pad 26 may comprise layers of gauze or paper, the layer which in use faces the body preferably being of a release-material, e.g. polyethylene. Reference has been directed by the comptroller to Specification 1117304.
