Abstract

1404570 Substation circuits THORNERICSSON TELECOMMUNICATIONS (MFG) Ltd 11 Dec 1972 [22 Dec 1971] 59665/71 Heading H4K Power is derived from a subscribers line by means of a circuit consisting of two parallel opposed paths 26, 24 and 30, 28 respectively, each containing a diode and a transistor, one (negative) output terminal 32 being connected to the common junction of the diodes and transistors and the other (positive) output terminal being connected to the other electrode of the currently conductive diode. For a current flow from terminal 20 to 22, diode 26 and hence transistor 24 are conductive so that a useable voltage of approximately 0À7 volts is developed across diode 26. This may be used, as shown, for enabling transistor 52 of a blocking oscillator in the subset. For current in the opposite direction, oscillator transistor 54 would be enabled. The polarity insensitive circuit is said to drop only 0À7 volts for the diode plus 0À05 volts for the transistor as opposed to a conventional full wave bridge which drops 2À1 volts of which only the 0À7 volts for the load circuit is useful.
