1404513 Desulphurization of petroleum fractions BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 10 April 1974 [10 April 1973] 17040/73 Heading C5E [Also in Division C2] Petroleum fractions are desulphurized by oxidation with air or oxygen in the presence of a catalyst which is (i) Ru on a support or (ii) a solution of a compound of Ru, Au, Cu, Ir, Os or Fe containing halide, betadiketone or acetate radicals, and decomposing the sulphones formed to liberate SO2, e.g. by heating above 200‹ C. or by treatment with a base.
