Abstract

1403820 Buckles INTERNATIONAL ENG SERVICE Inc 28 Sept 1973 45535/73 Heading E2A A seat belt buckle assembly comprises a tongue 16 for attachment to a belt part 14, the tongue having an opening 20, a buckle member 10 attachable to a second belt part 12, a latch 48 pivoting in the buckle member to engage in the tongue opening, a release member 70 pivotally mounted in the buckle member to release the latch and is releasably engageable with the latch to prevent its removal from the tongue member and a spring member 60 which urges the latch towards removal from the tongue opening in response to the release motion of the release member. The buckle member comprises a housing 86 for a channel shaped member 28 with side openings 40, 42 in which lateral fingers 50, 52 on the latch 48 pivot. The latch has a stepped plate 58 and lateral fingers 54, 56 at right angles thereto. The tongue engages the fingers 54, 56 when it is inserted in the buckle member 10 and thereby pivots the latch so that the plate 58 is upstanding and engages in the tongue opening 20 and in an opening 82 in the release member. The release member has a finger press which extends into an opening 90 in the housing 86. Depressing the release member against the action of a part 84 of the spring member 60 disengages the latch plate 58 from the spring 82 and fingers 66, 68 of the spring urge the latch to rotate to its original position and rejects the tongue.
