Abstract

1403644 Thread rolling PRUTTON CORP 14 May 1973 22933/73 Heading B3M A thread rolling machine which comprises a rotary die 18 and a stationary die 19 between which blanks are fed to be threaded, is provided with a feed mechanism which gives a desired relationship between the spacing S of successive blanks and the number of thread starts N on the rotary die. The ratio of N/S, where S is a given multiple of N is arranged to be other than an integer, to prevent certain of the thread starts on the die suffering more wear than the remaining starts. The blank spacing is determined by a feed slide 33 which is reciprocated by a cam-operated lever 45. Rotation of the cam 44 is synchronized through gearing 41, 40, 37, and 36 with rotation of the shaft 13 for the die 18.
