Abstract

1403372 Hydrogen modified olefin polymerization INTERNATIONAL SYNTHETIC RUBBER CO Ltd 13 April 1973 [13 Jan 1972] 1639/72 Heading C3P Ethylene or an ethylene/α-monoolefin (up to 20%) mixture is polymerized in the presence of (a) a vanadium, niobium or tantalum compound, (b) an organoaluminium compound, (c) hydrogen, and (d) a promoter which is a halogen containing organic compound having a -C (halogen) 2 group attached to an electron donor group and/or a carbon-carbon double bond (which may be present in a ring)' In the examples, ethylene is homopolymerized in the presence of (a) vanadyl trichloride, (b) ethyl aluminium sesquichloride, (c) hydrogen and (d) butyl perchlorocrotonate. Other typical (d) components are benzotrichloride and hexachloropropylene.
