Abstract

1403069 Stud and socket fastenings; fastenings; partition studs UNITED STATES GYPSUM CO 24 Oct 1972 [11 Nov 1971] 48879/72 Headings E2A E2B and E1W A stud for a support structure for planar wall panels comprises a web having side flanges 24, 26 and a rib 32 extending from one end of the web to reduce the width of the end portion whereby it fits within a track 18 for mounting wallboard 12 upon a floor 20. The rib may taper uniformly or only at the upper end portion or may be of uniform width and extend to a hole 17 in the web. There may be two ribs or three ribs to reduce the width to a greater extent on one side so that a screw may be inserted through a track flange and one of the flanges of the stud 10, Fig. 7 (not shown). The rib may branch to each side of the hole 17. The rib may extend transversely of the web, Fig. 8 (not shown).
