Abstract
1402996 Gas turbine engine fuel systems; jet pumps PLESSEY CO Ltd 10 Oct 1972 [28 Oct 1971] 50292/71 Headings F1E and F1G In a gas turbine aircraft engine fuel system comprising at least one fuel pump for pressurizing fuel delivered to the burner supply line and a drain tank into which fuel supplied to the engine is dumped while the engine is running down, a spillage-return pump arranged for operation by liquid branched off the delivery of the fuel pump is provided for reintroducing, when the engine has been restarted after a shut-down, liquid from the drain tank into the fuel system at a point of the latter at which the pressure potential is higher than the pressure potential in the drain tank. A fuel pump 3, Fig. 3, supplies fuel to a gas turbine engine. When the engine is being shut down, fuel is drained from the burner feed line via a dump line 8 into a drain tank 9. When the engine is restarted, a small portion of the delivery of the pump 3 is diverted via a branch line 10 and a solenoid valve 22, 23 to energize a jet pump 16a which then draws the drained fuel from the drain tank 9 and returns it, together with the energizing fuel, via a line 12 to the inlet side of the pump 3. A check valve 14a at the exit from the jet pump may be replaced by a check valve 14b between the drain tank and the jet pump. The switch 24 for controlling the solenoid valve 22, 23 may be manually operated or operated by a float (20), Fig. 2 (not shown), within the tank 9. As shown in (Fig. 2) the float (20) may instead, or in addition, operate a valve (21) located at the exit from the tank 9.
