Abstract

1402928 Purifying water H U KLEIN 6 Nov 1972 [2 Dec 1971] 50985/72 Heading C1C [Also in Division B1] In a process for purifying water, the water to which has been added flocculant and, if desired, ozone, is passed through zone 2 comprising at least one layer of coarse granulates to collect the floes from the water and at least part of the water which has passed through zone 2 is recycled. In the shown embodiment the water is passed upwardly through fluidized bed 3, zone 2 and fine filtration zone 11. In other embodiments the water flow may be downwards through the zones; the zones may be backwashed preferably using air; the zones may be housed in separate vessels; the fluidized bed may be by-passed by some of the water; and a settling zone may be positioned upstream of zone 2.
