Abstract

1402487 Protected hinges NV TOOLS Ltd 29 Nov 1973 [21 Feb 1973] 8444/73 Heading E2F A hinge comprising two pivotally interconnected portions is protected against a cutting tool such as a hacksaw blade which may be inserted between the portions by two rotatable members 12, 22 each of which extend from one portion and locate in a recess 10, 20 in another portion in a closed position of the hinge and which rotate beneath any cutting tool to prevent destruction of the pivotal connection. In Fig. 3 a concealed hinge is shown in which links 6, 7 pivot at 4, 5 and 8 and on each hinge portion 2, 3 a headed steel pin 11 carries a hardened steel roller 12 projecting into a recess 10 in the other portion when the binge is closed. A butt hinge is shown in Fig. 6. The rollers may be mounted via ball, roller or needle bearings on the pins (Fig. 7, not shown).
