Abstract

1402429 Emptying hoppers BRITISH TITAN Ltd 17 May 1973 [13 June 1972] 27505/72 Heading B8S Small quantities of particulate material (powder) to be added to a gas stream to a chemical reactor are fed downwardly through a tube 10 to a feed aperture formed between a pair of rollers 1, 2 while rotating the rollers so that the adjacent surfaces of the rollers move in opposite directions or upwardly to cause the material to pass through. The tube 10 passes through the top of a gas-tight receptacle 5 and seals against the upper surfaces of the rollers 1, 2. The rollers may be spaced apart to form the feed aperture or they may be provided with one or more circumferential grooves to form the feed aperture. The size of the feed aperture may be varied. The quantity passing through the discharge outlet 16 may be varied by an adjustable shoot 19 leading to a collecting tube 18 of a collecting vessel. The circumferential grooves may be of triangular or rectangular section. The rollers may be rotated individually or by a chain drive or gear-wheels from an electric motor.
