Abstract

1402264 Purifying n-paraffins BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 31 July 1972 [20 Aug 1971] 39122/71 Heading C5E Refined n-aparaffin products (passing the U.S. FDA test 121,1146) are prepared from nparaffins products, obtained by molecular sieve separation processes, containing up to 5% by weight of aromatics and boiling in the kerosine and gas oil ranges, by hydrogenation in the presence of a catalyst comprising a presulphided mixture of an oxide or Cr, Mo or W and one or more oxides of Fe, Co or Ni on a refractory support at 300-380‹ C. a HSV of 0À05 to 3 and a pressure of 70-200 bar gauge. In an example the catalyst is presulphided by heating from 140‹ up to 320‹ C. in the presence of recycled hydrogen and a heavy vacuum gas oil which contains sulphur and 1 % by weight of carbon disulphide and used to hydrogenate a dewaxed spindle oil raffinate containing 0À5 wt. per cent sulphur and comprising C 10 to C 23 n-paraffins.
