Abstract

1401702 Checking bore axes COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 21 May 1973 [31 May 1972] 24212/73 Heading G1M [Also in Division H5] A bore 1 to be checked for axial correctness has inserted into it a unit 3 provided with a centering ring 10 and containing a 1 mm photon source 11 of X-rays or gamma rays. An aluminium cassette 5 holding a film 4 is accurately positioned by stops 17, and a nickel mask 13 is provided with reference apertures 15 which allow the film to be marked with a target for the axis, beta rays from a source 14 passing through the apertures 15 to print such a target on the film. The X or gamma rays pass through a very narrow duct or collimator 7 and impinge on the film to make a mark which may be compared' with the desired target area. The front portion of the unit 3 is made of lead alloy, antimony, tungsten or deplated uranium in order to guide the rays through 7. Examples of suitable radioelements for 11 and a low absorptive capacity material for 12 are also given. A film other than a photographic film may be employed and radiation other than beta rays may be used.
