Abstract
1400629 Dehydrochlorinated chlorinated polyolefins DOW CHEMICAL CO 24 Oct 1972 48891/72 Heading C3P Particulate dehydrochlorinated chlorinated polyolefins are prepared by mixing comminuted chlorinated polyolefins with a Lewis acid and an inert filler, maintaining the mixture in the form of a fluidized bed in the presence of an inert gas, heating the fluidized bed, cooling and recovering the dehydrochlorinated product. The chlorinated polyolefin may be obtained by melt, solution or aqueous dispersion chlorination of a polyethylene to a chlorine content of 36 to 48 weight per cent, and preferably contains at least 10 weight per cent of water when mixed with the Lewis acid. The Lewis acid may be zinc, aluminium, magnesium, ferric or cuprous chloride or a solution of zinc oxide in hydrochloric acid; the filler may be magnesium silicate, carbon black or titanium dioxide; and the inert gas may be oxygen, hydrogen chloride or nitrogen, Preferably an antioxidant, e.g. oxylated diphenylamine, dilauryl thiodipropionate, di-t.butyl-4-methylphenol or dihydro trimethylquinoline polymer, is also present.
