Abstract

1399942 Rolling mills SCHLOEMANN AG 5 June 1972 [5 June 1971] 26063/72 Heading B3M A length of stock, after being rolled in a continuous pre-finishing mill A is sheared into successive lengths at 3 and passed by a switch 4 to one or other side of a looper table 5 such that successive lengths are rolled alternately in finishing mills B and C, the speed of each mill B and C being reduced when a length has passed partly through it. The stock may therefore be rolled at relatively high speed, e.g. 40 m./s., in the mill A, and pass at a low speed, e.g. 10 m./s., to a cooling bed or beds 11, 12. The mills B and C initially operate at the speed of mill A until the leading end of a length of stock has passed through them. The shears are then operated to sever a length of stock, and the mill speed is reduced to suit the following cooling bed or beds. The shear may operate when two thirds of a given length has passed through one of the mills B or C.
