Abstract

1399825 Pyrotechnic compositions ALBRIGHT & WILSON Ltd 25 Sept 1972 [15 Sept 1971] 43045/71 Heading CID A combustion mixture generating smoke and flame for a sea marker comprises red phosphorus, oxalic acid, and an oxidizing agent for the phosphorus, and has a low water content, e.g. less than 0À5% by weight. The oxidizing agent may be an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal sulphate, e.g. anhydrous calcium sulphate. The water content of the mixture may be reduced by drying the mixture, or the components thereof, for several hours at above 90‹ C. in an inert gas or under partial vacuum. Alternatively, the oxalic acid may be used at least partially in the anhydrous form. The mixture decomposes more slowly than a similar mixture in which the oxalic acid is present as dihydrate.
