Abstract

1399391 Spray carburetters ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 15 Sept 1972 [17 Sept 1971] 42795/72 Addition to 1336606 Heading F1B A fuel injection system for mixturecompressing, spark ignition, internal combustion engines having continuous injection into the inlet manifold as claimed in Claim 1 of Specification 1336606 in which the return force is regulated by a flat-seat valve having a diaphragm serving as a movable valve member, the initial stress of a primary spring in the flat-seat valve loading the movable valve member being variable in dependence upon engine operating characteristics and the initial stress of a secondary spring opposing the primary spring being variable in dependence upon the amount of oxygen present in the exhaust gas of the I.C. engine. The system includes a measuring element 3 which moves in a conical portion 2 of the intake pipe in dependence upon the air-flow and which, through its mounting arm 8, moves the spool 11 of a fuel metering valve 7. The movement of the spool is opposed by fluid pressure in a chamber 34 enclosing the end face 12 of the spool. The fluid is fuel taken through a throttle 35, from the main fuel line 17, which is fed by a pump 15 from a tank 16. The pressure in the line 33 is regulated by a valve 37 which comprises a diaphragm 41 and a fixed valve seat 42, and controls the flow of fluid from the line 36 back to the tank 16. The diaphragm 41 is pressed against the valve seat by a primary spring 43, which also abuts a flange on a cup member 47. The position of the cup is varied by a push-rod 46 which bears on a cam 44 mounted on the spindle 45 of the throttle valve 6, so that the position of the cup is representative of the engine operating conditions. A secondary spring 48 opposes the primary spring and at one end abuts an internal shoulder in an armature 49 which is free to slide on a sleeve 50, inside a solenoid coil 51. An oxygen probe in the exhaust gas stream controls the current flow to the coil 51, so that the solenoid is either energized, resulting in enrichment of the mixture being supplied, or is de-energized.
