Abstract

1398923 Vehicle couplings R J GREATBATCH 1 March 1973 [6 March 1972 24 July 1972] 39325/74 and 39326/74 Divided out of 1398922 Heading B7T A coupling between a towing vehicle 30 and a trailer having a part of its weight supported by the towing vehicle comprises an A-frame 2 pivoted at 27 to the towing vehicle between the wheel base thereof and below the level of the rear wheel axle Y, the frame having a crossmember 25 which carries a stub axle 23A on which a first bearing 24 is journalled, two second bearings 20B projecting diametrically oppositely from bearing 24 and accommodating spindles 20A carried by brackets 19 attached to an apertured plate 31 bolted to a plate 11F of trailer tow bar 11E, the axle 23A and spindles 20A accommodating roll and yaw respectively. In Fig. 2 the brackets 19 are attached to a channel section member 12 which has a slot 13 in its flanges to receive the ends of a peg 10 projecting from goose-neck trailer towbar 11A, a pin 18 being inserted in apertures formed in the member 12 and towbar. The attachment comprising slots 13 and pin 18 may be made with a straight towbar, Fig. 3 (not shown).
