Abstract
1398780 Griddles THERMO ELECTRON CORP 3 July 1972 [23 July 1971] 31013/72 Heading A4D [Also in Division F4] Cooking apparatus comprises a Perkins tube or a heat pipe whereby heat is transferred from a combustion heat source to food to be heated. In the form shown, a griddle includes a heat pipe 16 having a food heating surface 22, a surface 24 heated by a gas burner 56 and by combustion products passing through openings 50 in corrugated baffles 52, a capillary structure 28 in the form of a woven wire mesh or porous sintered material on the surface 24 and a working fluid such as water or hydrocarbon oils or silicon based oils. Supply of gas to the burner 56 is controlled manually, or automatically by a solenoid valve or mechanical valve connected respectively to a thermistor or a liquid filled bulb sensing the temperature of the surface 22, or by a valve connected with the interior of the heat pipe and responsive to the pressure of the working fluid. The surface 22 may alternatively be defined by a plurality of tubes. In another embodiment, at least surface 22 is enclosed within an oven and defines hollow shelves.
