Abstract

1398275 Controlling injection moulding BRITISH INDUSTRIAL PLASTICS Ltd 28 Dec 1972 [28 Dec 1971] 60222/71 Heading B5A An hydraulically operated injection moulding machine has at least one hydraulic pump driven by an electric motor, the speed and torque of which are controlled (e.g. by preset digital switches) to provide the desired operating speeds and pressures (e.g. for two-speed mould closing) and also to reduce power consumption, unwanted heating of the hydraulic oil and flashing due to excess injection presssure. Signals from a tachogenerator are used to maintain a preset motor speed and signals from pressure transducers are used to vary the torque of the motor to maintain a preset ram pressure. The armature current of the (D.C.) motor is measured for controlling the motor torque. Limit switches also control the motor to initiate different stages of the injection cycle, and a second, higher power, pump is connected to the same motor for fast injection, the first pump providing mould opening and closing pressures.
