Abstract

1397939 Combine grain separators B C MATHEWS 3 Oct 1972 [4 Oct 1971] 45610/72 Heading A1F Both straw and grain from the threshing cylinder of a combine are fed on to a vibrating sieve 30 through which air is blown by fans 23, there being an adjustable plate 35 to resist movement of straw along the sieve and thus create a sufficient depth of straw to form a porous air barrier into which chaff is blown. The airstream is controlled by a shutter 24. The sieve 30 and a lower sieve 40 are vibrated as described in Specification 1397940 and each has a flexible curtain 25, 26 to deflect air upwardly. The plate 35 has a pin and slot adjustment but may be replaced by fixed upwardly extending plates. Reciprocation of both sieves from a single crank and a single rocking lever is also described.
