Abstract
1396816 Gas discharge display panels CONTROL DATA CORP 16 May 1973 [27 Sept 1972] 23250/73 Heading H1D A plasma discharge display panel comprises an electrically non-conducting substrate 10, a first group of electrical conductors 12 (only one shown) secured to said substrate in substantially parallel relationship to one another; a first layer 14 of electrically non-conducting dielectric material secured to said substrate in overlying relationship to the conductors 12 of the first group to form an electrically non- conducting surface; a second group of electrical conductors 16 secured to said electrically non- conducting surface so that the conductors 16 are in crossing relationship to the conductors 12; and a second layer 18 of electrically non- conducting dielectric material secured to said first layer 14 in overlying relationship to said conductors 16 to form a further electrically non-conducting surface. The panel, which includes a gas confining enclosure 20, may be curved in shape. In alternative embodiments (Figs. 2 to 10, not shown) the conductors are semicircular in cross-section; the conductors 16 of the second group are split and may be flanked by guard conductors; the conductors 12 of the first group cross and follow the contours of a group of parallel channels formed in the substrate 10, the conductors 16 of the second group being disposed either centrally or towards one shoulder of the channels so formed; an additional layer is provided in the form of a plate having holes aligned with the discharge areas of the panel, each hole being lined with fluorescent material.
