Abstract

1396737 Suction lifting devices; transferring jars between conveyers MARDON SON & HALL Ltd 5 July 1973 [9 Aug 1972] 37053/72 Headings B8H and B8A Jars 10 are picked up from a conveyer 11 by means of a transfer head 12 having a plurality of suction holders 13 thereon which engage the jars which are then transferred to an adjacent conveyer 14, Fig. 2, each suction holder comprising a body 24 in which there is a through duct 25 connected at one end by a duct 29 to a source of compressed air, Fig. 3, such connection being independent of the connection of the other ducts to the said source, each duct 25 being exposed to the atmosphere at its other end. In each suction holder 13 a vacuum duct 26, 28 intersects the duct 25 at a location where a Venturi device 30, 31 is located therein so that when a suction holder is lowered on to a jar 10 the compressed air passing through the Venturi device produces a partial vacuum in the duct 26, 28 causing the associated sucker element 27 to adhere to the jar. The transfer head 12 is raised and lowered relative to the conveyers by means of a pneumatic ram 16 mounted on a further pneumatic ram 17 which produces horizontal displacement of the ram 16 and transfer head 12 between the two conveyers. Sensor devices (not shown) cause the sequence of operation -of the rams 16, 17 and the application of compressed air to the suction holders.
